True Green Cities/Celebrating Fifteen Years: A Project to Be Proud of

Celebrating Fifteen Years!  It’s been fifteen years since I launched Barbara A. Campagna/Architecture + Planning, PLLC on April 19th, 2011 and while many things have changed, my goal to work on “greening what’s already here” continues to be met, often in places I never expected.

Fifteen Years

One of the projects I am most proud of in my career is the completion of a Historic Structures Report and Cultural Landscape Report for the Buffalo Central Terminal built between 1926 and 1930 in Buffalo.   The Art Deco Buffalo Central Terminal is an outstanding example of early twentieth-century railroad station planning and design and an enduring reminder of Buffalo’s contributions to the historical development of rail transportation in the United States. It is located on a 61-acre site at 495 Paderewski Drive at the eastern edge of the city’s historic Broadway- Fillmore neighborhood. Part of the Buffalo Central Terminal is owned by the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC), a nonprofit organization founded in 1997 that is dedicated to its preservation and revitalization. The CTRC owns 12.5 acres that include the Main Terminal Building, the Plaza and the Mail and Baggage Building.

The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation hired my team in 2023 to conduct these reports for this impressive complex and its landscape.  It was the first time that any significant research was conducted on the site’s landscape.  The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation released the reports to the public in December 2025.  The purpose of these three volumes of research is to provide guidelines for all current and upcoming work on this significant site.

Excerpts from the reports can be found on the Central Terminal’s website

I will be posting about new projects and ideas from my 15th year this week.

Thank you to all my clients, consultants and colleagues who have supported  Barbara A Campagna/Architecture + Planning, PLLC
