True Green Cities/Celebrating Fourteen Years: Historic Sites!
Celebrating Fourteen Years! It’s been fourteen years since I launched Barbara A. Campagna/Architecture + Planning, PLLC on April 19th, 2011 and while many things have changed, my goal to work on “greening what’s already here” continues to be met, often in places I never expected.
Fourteen Years
It may sound trite but it does feel like just yesterday that I started Barbara A. Campagna/Architecture + Planning, PLLC. in Washington, DC. Fourteen years, and I have decided to pivot away from some of my recent project typologies and return to my earlier historic sites’ days. As part of the pivot, I attended the AASLH (American Association of State & Local History) About – AASLH in Mobile, Alabama in September. I visited two states I hadn’t yet visited (Alabama and Mississippi), got reconnected with old historic sites’ friends and met many new ones from across the country. It was a way to reactivate my energy and my business.
One of the most inspiring experiences at the conference was an all-day trip to Mobile to visit The Legacy Sites that bravely tell the story of Black enslavement in America. The first stop was the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. It was like seeing the Viet Nam Memorial for the first time. A stunning, heart wrenching memorial to the murdered victims of lynchings. MASS from Boston were the design architects. The museums were created and are run by the Equal Justice Initiative. It’s important that everyone find the time to visit Mobile.
I will be posting about new projects and ideas from my 14th year this week.
Thank you to all my clients, consultants and colleagues who have supported Barbara A Campagna/Architecture + Planning, PLLC.
